Order #7232_3

The service purchased was an OG Xbox Refurbishment and modding 1TB + after testing that a partical recap had solved some video glitching issues.

The original state of the console was visually poor both outside and inside. This was mostly dust and dirt which did come off after the TLC process

The plastic of the shell, particularly the bottom part, was extremely brittle, and the plastic clips for the fan snapped off almost instantly. Such brittleness is not common and must has been due to the way this console was stored. I decided to replace the bottom of the shell with a spare rather than attempting to repair. I also found insects under the power supply which luckily had not caused any short circuit. Despite the console being generally in a poor state, the shield itself wasn’t really rusted, which is quite commong on these consoles.

The whole shell was then washed with soap and warm water

Then the RAM upgrade was carried out. An Aladdin chip containing XblastOS was used to test the RAM upgrade success.

The existing LPC rebuild (which is where the modchip is attached to the motherboard) had some missing pins, which are not needed for the Aladdin modchip that was installed but are required for the ModXo with which it was going to be replaced. I added the extra pins and installed and tested the Topvint ModXo modchip. Note the total amount of available RAM on the bottom right part of the Prometheos screen ( a small amoutn of RAM is required to run PrometheOS and that’s why there is less than 128MB on the picture)

From the four available banks in the modchip, only one bank has been populated with the latest version of Cerbios. PrometheOS has been configued to launch that bank automatically, but the process can be stopped by pressing “B” during the boot sequence. Installing other BIOS in other banks can be done by putting the IP address shown in the PrometheOS dash into a browser and uploading the right BIOS bin file.

The DVD drive was also dissassembled and serviced. Note how the faceplate had been previously secured with doubled sided tape, as the clips seemed to be broken. I tested how secure this was and as it seemed sturdy so I left it as it was. Since the faceplate doesn’t suffer any strain and doesn’t have any operational purpose, it is unlikely to detach in the future.

Finally Ia assembled the console and tested a game, and all performed well. The HDD has EvolutionX / UnleashedX as the default dashboard as requested, and this can be easily changed by editing the “Cerbios.ini” file which is in the root of the “C” drive (either through the File Broser in UnleashedX or connecting through an FTP client, username “xbox” and password also “xbox”). I recommed using Xbmc4Gamers which has many more options and modern features, as well as being more visually appealing.
