Megadrive Switchless Region mod

The console is a PAL Model 1 which had been previous disassembled. The LED was removed from the top shell. Some screws were missing or in the incorrect position. More worryingly, the heatsink had been overtightened and the motherboard presents cracks in a couple of places, although they don’t seem to affect any traces and the console seems to operate fine. There are also signs of corrosion in places such as nearby the reset switch, which also don’t seem to affect the console at the present time.

This mod doesn’t include any DFO or In-game reset, so installation requires less wires. It requires the cutting of three traces: two on the jumpers used to set the console’s region, and another one by the reset switch.

This mod installs an new LED which displays green, red or orange depending on the region, so the original LED was removed.

Testing was conducted with NTSC and PAL games, and working of the the reset button (press longer than 1.5s) to change region was also tested.

PS2 TLC and controller port connector repair

Customer mentioned that the controller port was broken and replacement of the port was offered as part of a TLC service. Upon inspection, the port was actually fine, and what was broken was the motherboard connector that fits the ribbon cable attached to the ports. Luckily, it wasn’t actually broken, but the closing tab was missing. A donor tab was taken from a different console and replaced as part of the service.

The battery and thermal pads were also replaced.

The console’s shell was washed with warm water and soap, and fan cleaned. The DVD drive was also disassembled, cleaned and lubricated

The console had been disassembled before, and the reset / power button was disconnected. One of the plastic studs was broken, so the button PCB wouldn’t stay in place. Double sided tape was used to keep it in place while closing the top part of the shell. Various tapes were also replaced with Kapton tape to make sure the cables were properly managed and in place

Final plastic protector was applied. Console was tested with PAL and NTSC-J PS2 and PS1 games
