Order #4337

The console was sent for a N64 RGB mod, using the N64 64 2.1 modkit from RetroUpgrades. The customer mentioned that there was a prior mod done on this console a long time ago. Upon opening the console, I found some pre-existent wiring to the VDC-NUS chip going back to the video connector. The chip was also covered in (probably) hot glue, which came easily off with some IPA.

Apart from the obvious wires, a few things to note:

  • Pin 24 of the VDC-NUS chip has been lifted (is still there), and a resistor has been soldered and goes to the other side of the board, although is it a bit unclear where exactly, although seems connected to R10
  • There is a bodge wire (the green one near the video connector) repairing a trace that had previously been cut

Apart from that it doesn’t seem like anything else has been changed, but I cannot be completely sure. Given that this is not a stock console, removing an existing mod and installing another one always carries a risk
