This order is for the refurbishment / TLC and installation of a Modbo 5.0 modchip for a black PS2, motherboard GH-022
The console was never opened before and had a fair amount of dust and dirt, particularly in the inside. Prior to open it up, PS2 games would play but not PS1 games. The customer agreed to proceed with the modding in any case.

The first step was to wash the console shell with water and soap and replace the battery

Second step was to replace the various thermal pads

The DVD drive was also disassembled and cleaned, including changing of the belt and lubrication of the rails, as well as cleaning of the laser

Finally the modchip was installed, using kynar solid core wire

Testing the console and the Matrix Infinity menu of the modchip before putting the console completely together

On testing, both PS2 and PS1 games from both PAL and NTSC region did boot, without any adjustments of the laser mechanism. There is some hesitation of the console to start games, and that might also be a sign of the laser starting to deteriorate with time.

The warranty sticker of the console, that was previously removed with hot air, was put back “as if nothing had happened” :). Scuffs were also removed on the external shell and plastic enhancer applied to the console.
