This order was for the recap and (basic) RGB mod of a Neo Geo AES, and the recap, triple bypass and FRAM modding of a Multi Mega. The customer provided both capacitor kits, as well as flash cart for the Neo Geo.
Neo Geo AES
The New Geo was in good shape and replacing the capacitors was straight forward. These consoles are known for having weak traces that can rot in humid environment, but no such rot was observed in this console

The RGB mod was simple and required to remove a few capacitors (which I had just replaced 🙂

Testing the console, the jail bars were gone

Multi Mega
The console was also in good condition. First step was full disassembly which is not easy in this console.

The capacitors on this console are spread across 3 PCBs. Most of the capacitors are located in the board that contains the laser pickup

The triple bypass in this console is also slightly more complex than the Mega Drive as it requires a lot of preparation removing components. I followed this guide in Console Mods. All the components that I removed I left “stored” soldered to only one of the pads (which means they don’t cause interference but it should be possible to rever the console in the future). Composite was also restored, which means the console can be used with composite output in case RGB isn’t available in the TV or monitor.

Finally the FRAM mod is the same as a SEGA CD i.e replacing the chip and bridging pins 1 and 28, as the chip used is larger. The chip had to be formatted to the console can use it.

Sound now is good both through the RGB cable and the headphones jack. Picture is crystal clear when using an RGB SCART cable.
