Installing an Optical Drive Emulator like GDEMU in your Sega Dreamcast removes the load on the 12V rail from the PSU, which is used for powering the motors of the GD-ROM (the console’s optical drive). This puts a strain on the power transistor of the power supply and also causes some additional heat. There are various ways to address this problem, but the most elegant one is to add a dummy load to the 12v rail, and this is exactly what this little board board is for.

The three 1K resistors in parallel produce a total ohmage of a bout 333hms. Since this are 1/4 watt resistors, that allows for 750mW, which is well above the circa 500mW that the restistor pack will draw.

This is a really simple mod in a small package that can be added at the back of your PSU but on the path of the airflow created by the fan. The installation just requires two wires to be installed.

This PCB has been designed by Eduart Misiraj and assembled by me 🙂

What’s included?

A populated board with 3x1K 1/4w resistors
