What do you get with this service?
Installation of an AV composite mod for your imported Nintendo Famicom. The Famicom was released in Japan in the mid 80s and came only with RF ouput. Even if you have a TV set that accepts RF (antenna) input, the frequencies used in the Famicom are just not compatible with those in the rest of the world, particualrly in Europe. Therefore the only option to enjoy a Japanese Famicom outside of Japan is to mod its video and audio output (i.e. capture the signals before they get modulated for RF output), and the most affordable and popular mod is the AV composite one.
There are several ways of doing this mod. The one we recommend is to purchase a kit that includes a small PCB with a few capacitors (for audio and video signal decoupling) and a 3.5mm TRRS 4 pole female jack, such as this one. The jack can be installed cleanly on the back of the console replacing one of the existing RF switches, and to connect it to a TV through a composite cable, you just need a 4 pole 3.5mm to RCA cable. Please contact us before purchasing the service if you have specific requirements.
Note that the installation of the new AV output jack in the back of the console will require drilling a small part of the plastic case, and probably glue to secure the jack to the console. There are some jacks that come with a screwn-in nut and it might be possible to install one without the glue. Please get in touch with us in advance if you have questions or would like to discuss a particular option.
