What do you get with this service?
Upgrade the RAM of your PS1 from 2MB to 8MB. This mod applies only to PU-18 motherboards and replaces the 4 stock 512Kb Samsung KM48V514BJ-6 EDO DRAM chips for 2MB KM48V2105AJ-6 EDO RAM chips. It also required wiring to support the pinout difference between the chips and the cutting of a few traces. Please check the pictures for details.
Please note this mod currently only works on PU-18 revision motherboards. That’s typically most 550x and 555x models, and some 700x, but please check your motherboard markings to be sure.
This upgrade is mostly useful for developing games and running homebrew. Performance of retail games is not changed.
What you don’t get with this service
This is not a repair service. Please ensure your system is fully functional as stated in our Terms and Conditions, or contact us before purchasing the service if unsure what will be covered.
The 2MB RAM chips are not included. Please send them with your console and please ensure that they are of the right type i.e. KM48V514BJ-6
Known issues
Once the RAM has been upgraded, memory card exploits based around FreePSXboot are unlikely to work.
Shipping
You are responsible for shipping the system in adequate packaging to our address. An email will be sent to you after purchase with some suggestions about how to do this as well as shipping details. The cost of you shipping your system to us is not included in the price of the service.
The shipping we do charge for this service is to send the console back to you when the service is finished. To the extent possible, we will use the same packaging material you used to send the system to us in the first place. We will replace packaging material if it is damaged when we receive it at no cost to you.
