SNEdge is an Open Source image sharpener for the Super Nintendo / SNES consoles. This mod aims at correcting the well documented blurred or smeared video output from the 2 chip SNES consoles. The boards design is made available through the ThunderTechnologies repository in GitHub, where the installation instructions are also held.

Please note that while this kit is designed to be installed in any revision of the SNES, different revisions might need different “aids” to operate properly and not show video noise. Please check below in “known issues and solutions” for the revision of your console. Your revision might need different things.

There are two different installation of this mod: Sidecar and Full RGB bypass. These methods might require different installation. Please ensure you check the main GitHub repository for up-to-date information

Known issues and solutions

  • All consoles: Please follow the instructions in the SNEdge repository to solder additional 10uf SMD capacitors on top of existing ones in the motherboard. These capacitors will be included in the kit.
  • SHVC-CPU-01 (NTSC-J): Solder additional 15pf ceramic capacitors between the RGB input lines in the main SNEdge PCB and their corresponding grounds pads.

What’s included?

All kits include the main SNEdge PCB fully populated, the multiout QSB, the ribbon cable that connects them together. Kits also include 5x 10uf SMD 0805 capacitors and 3x 15pf ceramic capacitors that you might need depending on the revisions of your console.
