This order was fulfilled through the Free Modding Programme for a SEGA Nomad recap and a lens replacement.

The Nomad packs a Mega Drive inside and houses an LCD screen and 3 different PCBs. One of those is a small Mode / Start button with no capacitors. The other two boards, one has the main chips for the console with just 3 capacitors, while the other one has most of all the capacitors. A total of 34 SMD capacitors were provided by the customer, together with a ZedLabz glass screen lens.

To replace the screen lens, the entire console was disassembled. Removing the old plastic lens required heating up the screen edges as it was glued. The new glass lens was really tight, so on first attempt, the screen satered while trying to fit it.

On second attempt, the lense did fit by lightly bending the plastic case while fixing the lense in place. After that, it was a matter of putting the console back together for testing. All works well although is unclear if the new capacitors have made any difference to the screen (which is not too bad and much better than the Game Gear, but is not a modern IPS screen)

No further testing of this console has been made before or after the work, specifically, no test has been made of the controller port or the video and audio jacks.
As agreed on the terms of the Free Modding Programme, I might use the photos I took of the console and the modding process in social media and Topvint’s website.
