What do you get with this service?
The installation of a Matrix Infinity-based modchip for the PlayStation 2 (e.g. Modbo chips). This process works for most phat and slim models and involves wiring the modchip with around 20 wires to various points of the motherboard. The compatibility of the specific modchip will vary so it is difficult to give a comprehensive list. However, the most commonly found modchips are the so called Modbo chips, and you can check this guide to acetain if your console is indeed compatible or not. For other modchips of if you are in doubt, please contact us before purchasing this service.
A PS2 modchip will allow you to play any PS1 or PS2 game disc, original or backup, regardless of the region, by just inserting the disc in the console. While software-based solutions like FreeMcBoot would support most of these functionality, this modchip offers an easier and more compatible experience overall.
The modchip will also allow you to boot PS2 games from a hard drive or a flash drive, although USB speeds might hamper playability for some titles.
The wiring process to install a PS2 modchip is laborious and can take a long time. Additionally, getting the installation tidy is a bit of an art and undoutedly adds additional time. Please check the attached pictures for some examples of installations we have made both in phat and slim consoles.
What you don’t get with this service
This is not a repair service. Please ensure your system is fully functional as stated in our Terms and Conditions, or contact us before purchasing the service if unsure what will be covered.
The modchip itself is not included, so please provide a modchip at the same time as you send your console in. Thge modchips are easy to find (e.g. Ali Express, eBay, etC), and perhaps the most common modchip today is the Modbo 5.0. We will however provide any consumables required to install the modchip.
For version of PS2 50k and some 70k (so V9 to V12 in the Modbo installation guide) you should also consider the installation of Matrix PicFix chip, which protects the laser from burnout due to scratched original and burnt discs. Shipping
You are responsible for shipping the system in adequate packaging to our address. An email will be sent to you after purchase with some suggestions about how to do this as well as shipping details. The cost of you shipping your system to us is not included in the price of the service.
The shipping we do charge for this service is to send the console back to you when the service is finished. To the extent possible, we will use the same packaging material you used to send the system to us in the first place. We will replace packaging material if it is damaged when we receive it at no cost to you.
