Order #6085

This service was for the installation of a N64 RGB mod, and for the recap and TLC of the console. The RGB mod is a Tim Worthington board, sold by Oldskoolconsoles. The kit comes with cable harness, connector and ribbon cables.

The console was overall in good condition. The console was PAL. The customer provided a Rad2X and a power supply with a EU-style plug, and an adapter.

First step was to recap the console and replace the thermal pads and wash the shell with soap and water

Second step was to install the mod. First, the cable connector needs to attach to the DAC

The install the connector on the mod PCB, solder RGB, ground and sync cables to the PCB and the bottom of the multi-out. And also to replace the thermal pads under each heatsink

Finally connect the reset and control line to the PIF-NUS chip. The customer asked for the controller to be wired to be the 4th controller. However, this means that the Hotkeys can only be used with games that support multiplayer. Single player games would not accept any commands from controllers that are not connected to the first port. Given that this doesn’t seem very desirable, the controller that was wired was the first port, not the fourth.

The console was then tested with the Rad2x, a SCART cable and composite, and found to work with all those cables. The console was also given a shine with plastic enhancer compound.
