This order was for the installation of Stellar and HD+ into an original Xbox, a TLC service, and the replacement of the HDD for a 4TB SSD, as well as the motherboard, PSU and DVD drive recap and a 128MB RAM upgrade.
The console as pre-modded with a softmod and in relatively good condition, although the shield had rusted somewhat and the customer agreed to sand and repaint. The first steps were to recap the motherboard, rebuild the LPC port to use an Aladdin modchip to test the RAM upgrades, and do the actual RAM upgrades. In revision 1.6, the extra RAM chips need to be placed on top of the existing chips, and one of the pins connected for chip-select. The RAM upgrade needs to be done one by one, testing each time that each chip works.
After successfully installing the RAM, is time to replace the rebuilt PLC wires with the flex QSB provided with Stellar, and then install the Stellar Plus flex. The stock AV port also needed to be removed to make space for the HD+ HDMI board. A few pins of the AV port need to be bridged so that the Xbox boots up, otherwise it doesn’t if no AV cable is detected.
Next installation of the flex for the HD+, which is attached to 4 different resistor networks. In order to have the space to install the flex, the heatsinks and the plastic support for them needs to be removed. A few wires for power, ground and SPIF need to be attached to three of the AV port pins as well.
First test of the HDMI out produced video with bad colours, so had to go an resolder the flex cable. After doing this, it worked fine.
The DVD drive had already been serviced and was very clear, but the lense was wiped and the belt replaced for good measure. The SSD was formatted for Stellar and installed in the console with a 3D printed adapter for a 2.5” size.
The shell was also washed , jewel polished and the shield sanded and painted with conductive galvanised zinc spray paint.
