Order #6704

This order was for the TLC of PS2, PAL 30003 model. The console was quite dirty overall, with what’s likely pet hair mixed with dust. The DVD player worked but struggle with scratched discs, particularly PS2 games.

The first step was to disassemble the console, which has never been opened before. The warranty sticker was preserved and reapplied at reassembly. On disassembly, it was observed that one of the plastic studs in the top part of the shell was broken. This probable happened in shipping or has been broken previously. The stud was glued with clear UV resin.

The plastic shell was then washed with warm water and soap, and the thermal pads replaced with new ones.

The DVD drive was also disassembled and cleaned. The tray belt replaced, and the worm gear and laser slides lubricated. The lens was cleaned. The battery was also replaced.

Console was tested with PS2 – DVD and PS1 – CD games. The PS2 games still take a bit to load, while the PS1 games are faster. This might be improved further by tweaking the white cog at the end back of the laser pickup, which raising or lower the rails and can improve focus. To access this, is enough to open up the console, remove the top of the DVD player and eject the tray.
